The Whitman Family Papers comprises account books, correspondence, bills, legal documents, award certificates, and other material related to the Whitman families of Hartford and West Hartford, Connecticut. Much of the material concerns Samuel Whitman, Jr. (1786-1852). His interests in sheep breeding and legal affairs are well represented among correspondence, bills and receipts, and court documents. Land deeds are another sizeable portion of this collection. Other family names, such as Abbott, Bicknell, and Talcott can be found as well, particularly among the estate matters. One of the account books contains a limited amount of family history initiated by Samuel, Sr. Certificates awarded to Samuel Whitman, Jr. for his prize winning sheep can be found in an oversized folder.
